How Does Kindle Unlimited Work?
And WHY is ELENTARI going to be in it for 90 days?
Ever wondered how in the heck do authors with books in the Kindle Unlimited library get paid?
Personally I actually hadn’t given this much thought in the past. I do use KU as a reader for some books and others I straight up purchase.
The way KU works as a reader is that you pay a monthly fee and can then have up to 10 books for no additional fee in your Kindle library (some reports say 20, but I am always prompted to remove a book when I add an 11th one). The books have to have been set by the author/publisher as published in the KU not the general/main Amazon.
You don’t own the books, they are borrowed, like a subscription library.
So I buy the books I am sure I will want to keep and read again or loan to someone or simply want to support with my own targeted dollars.
With ELENTARI: A Cosmic Fairytale launching now with the ebook being in KU for at least 90 days as an experiment, I thought I’d share about this with you!
KU authors are paid based on the number of pages you read!!!
It makes sense once you realize it, doesn’t it? How else would they figure it? They only count the first read through, not subsequent ones, and the amount per page varies per month based on an overall global pool they establish, presumably based to some degree on the monthly member fees. Amazon is both very transparent and a total black box at the same time. It’s actually an impressive skill set…. LOL
What does this mean for the ELENTARI early readers?
Well, you’ve already read the free ARC so you probably weren’t planning on bothering with the Amazon ebook…
You may instead be focused on the print version, and I am LOVING the messages from you who are receiving it and loving the heft of it, the high-quality creamy paper, the charming font, the GORGEOUs and magical cover art thanks to the amazing intuitive artist Pamela Hawkins…
I know I swoon many times a day as I look at my own copies!
But if not, and if you are a KU reader, here’s my appeal to you:
PREORDER the ebook here.
On June 4th or soon thereafter, pop into your KU library and “read” the full book. Basically just slowly scan through all the pages. It can’t be too fast or the page read won’t capture it, but hey, make a cup of tea and while it steeps just idly, slowly, leisurely scan through the full book!
On the magic front, this will also be super boosting to you as you allow the beautiful story to come back more fully into your field, as phrases and scenes leap off the page into your activated memory.
You may even get snagged by a special fave scene and get to relive it and then float around in that dreamy bubble vibe for the next few hours!
WHAT COULD BE BETTER???

ELENTARI: A Cosmic Fairytale is HERE at last!!
This whole book publishing thing is NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! 🤣 After a variety of minor but still important glitches, at last ELENTARI: A Cosmic Fairytale is available in PRINT and the Kindle eboo…
AND PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!!!
I’m playing a long game with all of the Seven Stars Stories, including The Possibles Series of which ELENTARI: A Cosmic Fairytale is Book 1, so I’m experimenting with various ways of spreading the story as fast as possible for this early phase. That’s why I’m on Amazon first. Later I will definitely branch out to other retailers and eventually set up direct sales (but that tax stuff is wackadoodle so I’m holding off until I feel I can handle that piece…. separate sales tax per state with different rules for when and how to do the reporting….? This is NOT my zone of joy… 🤣👀🤦🏻♀️
